Welcome!
What is the Active Flag?
The Active School Flag (ASF) is a Department of Education and Skills initiative supported by Healthy Ireland. The award recognises schools that strive to achieve a physically educated and physically active school community.
Camcloon National School are proud to be an active school. We recognise the importance of a healthy lifestyle which is essential for maintaining and protecting children’s health and ensuring they develop to their full potential.
Being active plays a very important part in life at our school and we will work hard together as a Team, both staff and children, to retain our Active School status.
The Active Flag Committee
The Active Flag committee here in Camcloon National School consists of students from second to sixth class. We meet most Thursdays to discuss upcoming events. They have been very busy so far getting all the children involved in making them aware of Active Flag news, encouraging classes to create motivational posters and working as a team to come up with Our Active Flag Slogan and new ideas.

Happy Fitmas!
The Committee were brainstorming and came up with the perfect way to get active the week before Christmas. We have been enjoying the days leading up to the holidays by celebrating 'Fitmas'. Spring Forward!
January and February have been busy months here in Camcloon NS. Christmas is long gone, the days are getting longer and the sun is beginning to shine. The children are enjoying keeping active this term and as the days are becoming milder, we have been spending time outside taking part in '10 @ 10' activities and '10 @ 2' for the Senior classes.
Our Playground leaders are out in force every day to keep our yard an Active zone, always encouraging students to take part in games, exercises and doing their talking as they walk.

Active Schools Week 2019
24th - 28th June
What better way to end the School Year than with a week of fun, physical activities!
Our Active Week got off to a great start! Every class kicked off the day with 'Wake, Up, Shake Up!' which got our heart rates pumping and set us up for the day ahead.

Later in the afternoon, Laura Tully visited to talk to us about the benefits of being active. Laura is a nurse and she is also heavily involved in Promoting Physical Activity in the Community. She shared with us that the 'Top Secret' to being healthy, happy and full of energy is to incorporate 60 minutes of Physical Activity in to our everyday lives. She encouraged everyone to take part in a Summer Challenge called '60/60'. This will challenge us to be as active as possible for 60 minutes over 60 days in the summer. Thank you Laura for sharing your tips and tricks on remaining active over the summer months.

Charlene from Roscommon Sports Partnership also came to visit our school. She showed us some dance moves and set up exercise stations. It was so much fun!

We were privledged to welcome 'Rinka' to our school this week. Sandra and Dave provided a structured fitness session for each class. They encouraged the children to be as creative and active throughout the session and to strive to live an active lifestyle.

Ms. Duffy's Class spent the morning enjoying gymnastics and mindfulness.

Ms. O' Gorman's Class enjoyed fun warm up exercises and played structured games!

Ms. Keane's Class also played fun filled games and learned how to strengthen their core muscles!

We were very lucky to welcome Lisa Daly to our school this week. Lisa is a former member of the Tug of War Ireland team. She has won many medals and we even got to see them. She brought her jersey, boots and all the gear needed to participate in pulling competitions. It was an enjoyable day and the teachers got competitive also! Thanks Lisa, we had so much fun!

BIODIVERSITY
Biodiversity is the fifth Green-Schools theme. We are working hard to increase awareness of Biodiversity within our school and the wider community.
What is Biodiversity?
Biodiversity is our life support system. It is the variety of all life forms on the Earth, from the tiniest bugs living in the soil to the biggest whales in the sea.
